Chocolate Martini Recipe
If you like the idea of having a cocktail and dessert all in one glass, then consider making a chocolate martini recipe. It’s a delicious follow-up to a meal, or an ideal cocktail for those of us who love chocolate.
Basic Ingredients in a Chocolate Martini Recipe
Although there are many variations on this popular cocktail, most include vodka, creme de cacao and chocolate liqueur. A classic version includes the following proportions: two parts vodka to one part each of a chocolate liqueur and creme de cacao. Combine the vodka and liquors with ice in a martini shaker and shake gently to cool the concoction. In chilled martini glass, swirl chocolate syrup in a decorative fashion. Slowly strain the martini into the glass.
Garnishes
Get creative with your garnishes for your chocolate martini. Some options include:
- Cocoa rimmed glass
- Sugar rimmed glass
- Crushed cookie rim, such as Oreos
- Hershey’s hug or kiss
- Chocolate shavings
- Whipped cream
- Cherry
- Chocolate covered espresso beans
Variations on Chocolate Martinis
Change it up by trying out these chocolate martini variations:
- Use an infused vodka such as vanilla for added flavor.
- Try rum instead of vodka for a sweeter cocktail.
- Add half-and-half for a richer result.
- Experiment with fruit-flavored liqueurs such as orange or raspberry.
- Consider adding Kahlua or schnapps to alter the flavor.
The purveyors of fine liqueurs and chocolates as well as many bartenders have developed their own variations on chocolate martinis. Here are interpretations of a few:
Godiva Liqueur Chocolate Martini
Combine equal parts Godiva Liqueur with vodka for an extra rich and luxurious martini.
Raspberry White Chocolate Martini
Two parts raspberry infused vodka and one part Chambord raspberry liqueur combined with a white chocolate martini mix results in a sweet and tangy cocktail.
Bailey’s Irish Cream Chocolate Martini
Bailey’s Irish Cream is a whiskey based liqueur that combines nicely with an equal part of vanilla infused vodka. Garnish with plenty of chocolate shavings for a smooth interpretation of this sweet cocktail.
Chocolate Mint Martini
If you love the combination of chocolate and mint, simply add a splash of peppermint schnapps to the traditional chocolate martini recipe for a refreshing finish.
Chocolate Espresso Martini
For an extra jolt, add cooled espresso to the basic chocolate martini recipe and garnish with a few chocolate covered espresso beans.
Chocolate Turtle Martini
The additions of pecan flavored liqueur and a swirl of caramel sauce transform a regular chocolate martini into a decadent treat.
Skinny Chocotini
Just because you are on a diet doesn’t mean you have to deprive yourself. Lower the calories in this cocktail by using light chocolate syrup and cocoa powder dissolved into skim milk. Add a splash of vanilla extract to round out the flavor, or experiment with vanilla or chocolate infused vodka.
